If the floor flexes near the tub or the toilet, something underneath has already taken water. Tiling over it will crack the new tile, usually within a season. We cut it out, find how far it travelled, and replace what is compromised. This is the single most common reason a bathroom quote changes after work starts, which is why we open and look first.

It depends on scope more than on finish. A tub-to-shower conversion in a sound room sits at one end; a full rebuild where the substrate and some framing have taken water sits at the other, and the gap between them is large. We will not quote a number before surveying, and we would be cautious of anyone who does.

Each stage has to be dry before the next starts, which in coastal humidity takes longer than the schedule you would use inland.
